Gary Nakamura
General Manager
Gary joined Terracotta in 2005 and became the General Manager of
Terracotta in January 2012 to aggressively lead the company through
its next phase of growth. He is responsible for Terracotta's
strategy, operating P&L, and business operations, including Sales,
Marketing and Product Management. Gary has over 20 years of
experience as a business executive, with extensive experience in
enterprise software, global sales, and market development and
strategy. Gary has a winning track record in technology companies in
high-growth markets.
Before becoming General Manager, Gary ran World-Wide Sales and Field
Operations for Terracotta and built Terracotta's business and sales
operations from the ground up. Under his leadership, Terracotta grew
and scaled its business by hundreds of percent, year-on-year.
Prior to joining Terracotta, Gary held executive positions at BEA
Systems where he had great success leading direct sales, OEM sales,
and channel sales businesses.
Before joining BEA Systems in 1999, Gary held various sales
management positions at Netscape Communications Corp and Merrill
Lynch.
Gary graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a
B.A. in Economics and Rhetoric.
Terracotta CTO, Founder of Ehcache
Greg founded Ehcache in 2003. Upon Terracotta’s acquisition of Ehcache in 2009, he assumed
the role as the project’s CTO and has been instrumental in building the technology into an
enterprise-class caching solution. Greg is also deeply committed to fostering Ehcache’s loyal
open source community and regularly speaks at international conferences and seminars.
Before joining Terracotta, Greg was Chief Architect at Wotif.com where he provided technical
leadership as the company grew from a single product start-up to a billion-dollar public company
with multiple product lines. Greg also served as a consultant for ThoughtWorks, managing
accounts in the United States and Australia. He was CIO at Virgin Blue, Tempo Services, Stamford
Hotels and Resorts and Australian Resorts and spent seven years as a Chartered Accountant in
KPMG’s small business and insolvency divisions. He also founded and maintains the JPam and
Spnego open source projects, which focus on security.
Greg holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Queensland and a Masters in
Information Technology from the Queensland University of Technology.
Steven Harris
Vice President, Engineering
Steve has been instrumental in developing
Terracotta’s technologies from the ground up. He
started his career at Terracotta as the Chief
Architect of the Terracotta platform and quickly
progressed from there to lead the Engineering
organization. Under his stewardship, Terracotta has
built a widely-adopted and highly-acclaimed product
family and has gained industry recognition for the
quality of its engineering team. One of his most
recent accomplishments has been the highly
successful integration of the Terracotta platform
with Ehcache.
Steve is a seasoned veteran of infrastructure
software. Prior to his work at Terracotta, Steve
spent 12 years at organizations such as Kenemea, J.P.
Morgan, and Florida Power and Light leading teams and
developing infrastructure software focused on
helping developers achieve simple scale for their
applications.
Mike Allen
Vice President, Product Management
Mike is responsible for Terracotta's product strategy and execution. He applies his technological
know-how and keen market insights to develop new products that not only meet the users’ needs but also
exceed them.
With more than a decade of experience in the software industry, Mike’s expertise is with high-scale,
performance-critical web solutions. Before joining Terracotta, he managed systems ranging from real-time
trading in financial services to in-flight internet service in aerospace. Most recently, Mike was
responsible for CA Wily's Introscope Application Performance Management product line.
He holds a BSc in Computer Science from University College London.
Ari Zilka
Terracotta Founder
Prior to founding Terracotta in 2003, Ari was an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at
Accel Partners. Before joining Accel, Ari was the Chief Architect at
Walmart.com, where he led the innovation and development of the company's new
engineering initiatives. At Walmart.com, he built and led a team of core
engineers focused on performance management, and operations cost-saving
measures.
Prior to Walmart.com, Ari worked as a consultant at Sapient and before that
at PriceWaterhouseCoopers. During these years, he managed development and
advised businesses on high technology strategy and deployment. His
accomplishments at Sapient include the successful launch of Walmart.com, as well
as successful engagements with Gap.com and Nike.com. At PriceWaterhouseCoopers,
he worked with Harrod's of London, Siemens, Intel, Compaq, Barnes & Noble,
and others.
Ari's career started as a software engineer for a subsidiary of Motorola,
where he wrote groundbreaking wireless paging software. Since then, his software
development accomplishments also include projects revolving around statistical
analysis and data warehousing. In the mid 1990's, Ari invented a new object
relational database that still exceeds the capabilities and performance of
database technology today.
Ari holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering Computer Science as well as in
Mechanical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley.
